Roman Remains Discovered At Chester’s New Bus Exchange Site

During the construction of Chester’s new bus exchange, Roman ruins have been uncovered. These are the remains of Roman timber foundations from a building long ago.

An initial survey and excavation of the area was carried out prior the launch of the construction phase of the project. The team has since uncovered traces and fragments of what would have been beams, a part of the ancient structure which would have stood hundreds of years prior. Further study is being undertaken on these new findings to learn more about the history of the beautiful and historically significant city.
Any further findings are being recorded to keep an account of what may have happened there in the past. All remains are being carefully removed by archaeologists, and documented in accordance with an agreement with a local archaeology firm.

Fear not! It has been assured that these findings will not result in any delays in the construction process pf the new bus exchange.

The new bus exchange, which is being erected in this ancient and famous city, is worth an estimated £13.5 million. This new station will offer new and improved travel links to other parts of the country, and will help to reaffirm Chester’s place as one of the most crucial locations in the UK.

This construction project is only causing minor disruption with locals, some of whom are finding bus schedules have altered, however, Chester’s mayor has said:

“This is a milestone moment in the delivery of a much-needed, modern bus interchange for Chester. The scale of this construction project and its city centre location means that some disruption and disturbance is unavoidable. However, we are committed to doing all we can to keep this to a minimum.”

The project is part of an initiate to rejuvenate the area, and will hopefully pave way to a proposed £300million Northgate development.
