Chester Zoo
Chester Zoo is one of the biggest zoos in Northern England. Founded in 1934 by the Zoological Society of England, Chester Zoo is fabulous day out for young and old alike.
Chester Zoo has become huge over the years, expanding to take more and more upto it's current capacity - 7000 animals and over 400 different species. The site of Chester Zoo takes up over 500 acres.
Chester Zoo is almost unique as being a "Zoo Without Bars". Animals are rarely kept in cages, and natural defences, such as moats, are used to keep the animals in. Don't worry though, it is quite safe!
Furthermore the Zoo is well recognised worldwide for having innovative enclosure designs and a hugely successful captive breeding programme.
For visitors, there is plenty to see and do, such as the fantastic Asian Planes and Asian Forest (which replicate the indonesian habitiat), the Twilight Zone for nocturnal animals, and some of the most successfully kept Black Rhinoceroses in the world.
