Packing Tips for Moving Home
IMAGE

It’s important to know that when you have decided to move to a new house that you don’t leave it so that it develops into a last minute rush. Over the years it’s inevitable that you have acquired things that no longer serve a purpose or are that outdated that they aren’t of any value anymore.

Take a look at our list of tips that will make packing your things a doddle.

Before Packing

Before you begin the packing process, carefully decide what you want to keep and what to throw out – now is a perfect opportunity to declutter. Things that you may no longer need will include, old bills, things that are broken or look tired, and generally anything that is shoved in the back of a cupboard or gathering dust.

Compiling a list is a great place to start which will ensure that you have all the essentials packed so you don’t leave them behind by mistake. On your list, you should make a plan on how you will tackle each room – big items first or items that are not so often used – leaving everyday items until last.

It is a good idea to start from the top of your house and work your way down, that includes the loft too! There’s probably plenty in your loft, if you have one, so make sure you sort out and label each box with the room in which it belongs – even if you plan on putting back in the loft.

Next you will need to think about what kinds of packing materials you will need to make sure everything is packed safely and securely. Make sure you have plenty of boxes in different sizes as well as bubble wrap and strong tape. Good packing materials can be purchased by removal company Chester.

Packing Tips

Labelling

When packing your items ensure you label everything! This includes, wires and accessories for appliances. The last thing you want to happen is to be unpacking and come across a bunch of wires which you don’t know what they are for. As well as specifics, the most important as mentioned briefly above is labelling of boxes.

Label each box for which room it belongs in so when it comes to unloading the van you know exactly which room it belongs in. That way you haven’t got a pile of boxes in one room where you have to sift through them all individually. It is likely that on moving in day you won’t get around to doing much unpacking but just getting your bearings inside your new home, so when you do, you can concentrate on one room at a time.

Essentials

Make sure when you pack to leave your essentials until last. It is a good idea to have a box that has things like, tea, coffee, kettle, cutlery and anything else you might need to have a sit down as soon as you arrive. The last thing you want to do is get to your new home hot and bothered from loading and unloading to then having to search through every box to find the essentials to make yourself a cuppa!

Packing might sound a little daunting, but I assure you it isn’t, you just need to know how to do it efficiently to make it as easy as possible. Maybe you lead a busy lifestyle and packing may feel impossible or you really don’t fancy your own packing? Then why not get a removal company to do the hard work for you.
